Introduction to Metal Jewelry Etching
During lab, students will sand and clean a 1-inch by 4-inch sheet of copper or brass in preparation for etching, utilize the toner transfer method to apply a design of their choice to the sheet metal, submerge the metal into a chemical bath and observe the etching process first hand, then inspect, clean and patina their choice of pendant.
Students are encouraged to bring their own designs for analysis and to repeat the course to increase their skill level or to work on their own projects.
