New: Create an Indoor/Outdoor Table & Bench Set
Interdisciplinary: woodworking, metal fabrication & MIG welding
In this three-part class, learn skills in three different tool areas: wood shop, metal fabrication, and MIG welding to create your own modern indoor/outdoor table set.
Instructors Matt Hatcher, Todd Perkins and Matt Bowman will show students how to build a simple, durable, outdoor/indoor table with matching bench seats.
One evening, students will learn how to prepare rough sawn pine and assemble solid blocks for the table tops and bench seats. The second evening, students will weld the steel tube frames for the supports. The third session addresses finishing both materials for outdoor use and final assembly.
Class features the use of locally sourced, Ohio grown wood and all materials costs are included in the class fee.
Intro to Sheet Forming
Students will make a box or dustpan or something simple of their own design. We’ll cover pattern planning, cutting, shears, jump, rotary, power snips, nibbling, plasma cutting, notchers, pinch & snip, folding, breaks (box & pan), leaf & press, roll, power slip,rotary machine, joints & edging – wire edging, rivets, solder & brazing
Introduction to Machining on a Manual Vertical Knee Mill
Students will learn the basics about safety, parts of the mill, cutting tools, speeds and feeds, setups, use of the rotary table, and boring.
Students will then learn tramming (ensuring flatness of the mill table with respect to the quill), and will receive hands-on instruction and experience in inking, measuring, and scribing, followed by hands-on instruction and experience in using the mill to machine at least one piece.
