Learn 2D Design for a ShopBot CNC Router
Learn the basics of designing a 2D pattern to be engraved or cut out of wood, foam, plastic, brass sheet, aluminum plate, and even steel.
The CIF has a 48″x96″x8″ ShopBot CNC router table with a Porter Cable wood router and a variety of woodworking and machinig bits. This class will inform students about the basics of CNC design and machining: walking through the process of digital rendering, converting the vector design to a toolpath, fixturing a workpiece to the table, and machining the pattern into the part.
Members who participate in this class will then be permitted to rent time on the ShopBot for their own projects, to create signage, furniture, art, positive MDF masters for sandcasting, positive foam masters for lost foam casting, negative masters for pewter casting, and more.
