Learn 2D Design for a ShopBot CNC Router

Description:

Instructor: Alex Bandar

Learn the basics of designing a 2D pattern to be engraved or cut out of wood, foam, plastic, brass sheet, aluminum plate, and more. This class will inform participants about the basics of CNC design and machining, walking through the process of sketching by hand, sketching digitally, creating a vector design, converting the vector design to a toolpath, fixturing a workpiece to the table, and machining the pattern into the part.  Participants can go home with a 2D profile cut or engraved from MDF.

The Columbus Idea Foundry CNC router table is a ShopBot model PRS standard, 48"x96"x6", with a Porter Cable wood router and a variety of woodworking and machining bits.

Members of the Columbus Idea Foundry can rent time on the ShopBot (indeed, any tools they've been qualified on) for their own projects, to create signage, furniture, art, positive MDF masters for sandcasting, positive foam masters for lost foam casting, negative masters for pewter casting, and more.  Examples of products fabricated by 2D CNC can be found at: http://www.becausewecan.org/
