Jewelry-Making: using paper in jewelry designs
Description:
The possibilities of designing with paper is almost endless--an infinite number of designs, textures and sources all at a marginal cost compared to other jewelry materials.
You can use pre-printed papers, handmade papers, or even vintage-sourced papers to create original jewelry designs with this introductory workshop.
Learn two different techniques and take away two unique pairs of earrings (or you can make a pendant instead) with materials INCLUDED in the workshop cost.
Paper folding: learn to scale basic origami patterns to wear-able size
Wire-wrapping: learn to create a wire frame, make a composition, trace, cut, and adhere paper to the frame
Learn how to preserve your paper creations with fixatives and sealants
Learn basic jewelry-making techniques such as making earrings, using head & eye pins, making wire-wrapped loops and more.
Materials such as wire, a variety of papers, glass bead accents, hypo-allergenic metal earring wires, sealants & clear coating, paintbrushes, scissors, adhesives and more will be provided.
Once you learn the basic techniques you can play around with your own papers and designs! Turn keepsakes such as wedding invitations or vintage finds such as old dictionary pages, maps, or sheet music into wearable pieces of art!
Taught by Etsy Team Columbus leader and jeweler Casey McCarty whose work can be found in several central Ohio boutiques.
Suggested supplies to bring (if you have it handy, if not, you can share ours):
