Let's go shop!  Woodshop that is!  Moms get a stress-free intro to woodworking basics with a simple project: an indoor play tent.

Unplug and encourage your child's creative thinking with a special hide-out made just for them.  Any sheet or fabric can be draped over the frame for an easy set-up make-believe zone or quiet-time nook.

Our woodworking instructor Matt Hatcher will walk you through the safe use of power and hand-tools needed to complete and finish this play tent which you can then paint (if you choose) to match your décor.  You'll learn to use the mitre saw, drills, and sanders--techniques at your disposal for projects at home.  All materials to complete the frame (excluding paint, optional) are included.

While Mom is working on building the tent frame, kids age 4 and up can join instructor Casey McCarty in our gallery to make some special accessories for their new indoor tent--like a make-believe camp fire or bunting, and make crock-pot s'mores!

Perfect for woodworking beginners--no experience required.  All materials to complete the tent frame (excluding paint, optional) are included, and all the art and craft materials for up to two children provided.

 About the Instructors

Matt Hatcher is a lifetime woodworker whose career includes everything from furnishings to high-end cabinetry.  Matt is a studio resident here at the CIF, where he runs his digital game asset business Indie Game Stock.

Casey McCarty is the Assistant Director of the CIF who also teaches private art lessons to students K-12, and previously served as Site Director for a before- and after-school program for the YMCA.
